Culture
Edit
The Ramiyya Emirates are a culture of traders, merchantmen, pirates, and adventurers. Jovial by nature, and always on the move, the Emirates dislike open warfare, and prefer to deal with all things diplomatically.
Centered in a large oceanic region of what is collectively called Ramiyaa, the emirates have spread themselves far and wide, always looking for more resources to find, exploit, and trade! The entirety of Ramiyaa is devided into three main regions; to the very north is the mainland, a stretch of savannah plains stretching from the east to the west. In the central region of Ramiyya is a vast archipelago, a sea of hundreds of small islands, each with it's own trade colony set up. In the very south of the archipelago is a massive island, for which the region is named after. This island has a mountain chain which make the central area a massive desert that is inhabited by nomadic tribes. The coastal regions of this massive island is considered the heart and soul of the Ramiyya culture.
Within the many channels of the Ramiyyan archipelago, the threat of piracy is always present. Whether they are privateers, outright pirates, or brigands, the need for constant defense gave rise to a specialized fighting perfected by the nomadic Dervish people, who reside deep in the deserts of the main island.
Frequently, the emirate princes would querrel over mining rights, territory, or being cheated out of a deal, and would wage long wars and battles with their neighbors. In this they rely on the cavalry troops which use a unique animal, the camel. This animal specializes in hot, desert climates, which makes it ideal for the dry environment the emirates reside in.
The emirates have longed held a tradition of scholarly practice in chemistry, and mysticism, blending the two very efficiently. To the emirate scholars, the practice of chemistry is in effect the practice of understanding how the universe was created, a divine act in it’s own right. This obsession with chemistry has pushed the emirates to create unconventional means of warfare, using Naffatun grenades and primitive hand cannons.
The northern most region is a landmass that connects the Imperials and Kingdoms homeland. This region is covered in hot deserts and savannahs, and is sparsely populated, due to lack of any real good resources. However, a few trade posts have been built, allowing for minimal trade with both Kingdoms and Imperials. But the long distances and harsh geographic conditions to reach those distances kept this trade at a minimal. It is known that the Emirates knew and traded with both the Imperials and the Kingdoms for centuries before the two began actual contact between one another.
History
Edit
The earliest emirates were a class of merchant and traders within the Arkdyan Empire. They were nomadic tribes that saw fit to be ruled by Arkadya, since it brought stability and safety to the dangerous lands they frequently traveled. Throught the history of the Arkadyan Empire these groups of nomads later began to settle and create powerful merchant guilds that controlled the trading lanes within the empire. They amassed stature and fame, but were the first to leave when the Arkadyan Empire began to fall apart.
Towards the later period of the Arkadyan decline the ever adventurous tribes that composed the early Emirates would explore the northern continent, discovering that it was not covered in ice and barren snow, but lucious forests and hills. They began to migrate north east towards the warm archipelago region that is now Ramiyya. The lucrative trade opportunities and amount of available resources on these islands have created a cultural feeling of opportunity. After a few hundred years, so much focus went into expanding the trade network between the many city-states, that all memory and thought of the Great Continent withered into legend and myths. The traders abhorred open warfare, but were frequently fighting amongst each other for resources, or slights made to one another. They were the first to collectively recognize themselves as a distinct community of people, focused on similar goals and ambitions. It is with this reason they coined their land, and their people Ramiyya Emirates.
The Emirates maintained trade and minor relations with both Kingdoms and the Imperials, even when the two did not have relations with one another. When war broke out between the three factions, it was the emirate princes that created the terms for peace 8 years later.
The emirates contributed heavily to the formation of the Guild of Archeology, providing ships, resources, and explorers needed to find and locate new ruins!
