Kingdom's Faction
Culture:
Edit
The Kingdom's people and culture come from the western end of the main continent, far north of Applo. The vast temperate region, littered with small country hamlets, vast coniferous forests, and majestic white mountains. This vast region, locally called Aquitania, is frequently the home of numerous battles between petty lords and ladies trying to carve out more land from the fertile hills.
There is no one true king amongst the Aquitanian people, but a vast array of noblemen, princes, lords and ladies, bidding for power and resources. This gave rise to a military tradition on having soldiers be ready for any situation, making them extremely adaptable. Because of this, troops are trained efficiently, and with the most economical consideration.
Far north of the Aquitanian people is another culture of barbarians that hire themselves out as mercenaries. These barbarians have garnered a special place in the social hierarchy of the Aquitanian people. Many of these barbarians move south to the more civilized and warmer regions of Aquitania, and establish themselves as hunters, scouts, smiths and leatherworkers. Some are even known to practice an ancient shamanistic art in their medicines and religious beliefs!
History
Edit
Long ago, when the Arkadyan empire was in it's decline, a large group of peasants and Arkadyan aristrocrats left in a large exodus to the far north west of the world. They formed a culture around the rich green pastures and lush forests and called themselves "The Kingdoms of Aquitania". As centuries passed the culture bloomed into a feudal society, with it's own architecture, traditions, and culture. Similarities between the Kingdoms and the far eastern Imperials, and the near eastern Emirates, began to wane
Due to their direct relation to the Arkadyan aristrocracy and peasantry they have retained the most of the old Arkadyan culture, language, and arts.
Starting from about 800 b.d. (Before Discovery of the Great Applo Continent) new technologies have allowed for extremely far sea travel and opening up relations between the distant Imperials, and the Emirates. For the first time in what may be thousands of years, genuine trade and relations opened up new possibilities, and also new dangers.
This world war lasted only a short while but forever left an impression of mistrust amongst the three factions. There would be open skirmishes, battles, and disputes over trade lanes, and major resource areas for another 300 or so years. Fortunetly, no major wars or confrontations took place.
During this time the Emirates, ever looking for newer lands to explore and establish trade colonies began discovering strange artifacts and ancient ruins scattered amongst the many islands in the far south. These rumors spread to the Kingdoms, and they began sending out their own expeditions to uncover new artifacts and ruins!
Within a few short decades a few scholarly elite from the three factions created an organization called the Guild of Archeology, with the goal of finding the meaning behind these newly discovered artifacts and ruins. This Guild, composed of Scholars from the Kingdoms, the Alchemists from Emirates, and the Philosophers from the Imperials, began a series of expeditions, one of which discovered a floundered ancient ship with a map of the surrounding islands, and a massive continent to the south with letters that resembled like a mix of all three culture's language.
Within a few short months a major expedition, led by the Guild of Archeology, uncovered a vast new continent, which they named Applo.
